Ehsan Baharlou contributed a chapter to Homing the Machine in Architecture, edited by Galo Canizares and Zach Cohen and published by Routledge (2024). His chapter, “Ecotectonics: Using Digital Fabrication Towards Multispecies Design,” appears in the volume’s “Material” section and examines how digital fabrication can be directed toward ecological and multispecies design frameworks. The book gathers first- and second-hand accounts of the origins of individual digital fabrication practices, spanning the emergence of advanced prototyping tools to the contemporary moment, with contributions from designers, practitioners, historians, and theorists. Organized around questions of history, orientation, and conceptual origin in digi-fab practice, the collection addresses practicing architects, upper-level students, and academics working across digital architecture, architectural theory, and architectural history.
